Introduction to connections

Jojo Rabbit
Questions to answer when viewing/reading texts:
1. How does viewing this text through a child’s perspective change the way we experience it? Explain using an example from the text.
Makes the movie less serious and if the movie was based on Rosie the movie would be more

2. How would this text be different if it were told from the perspective of an adult? How would the audience’s experience be different?
If the movie was told from a perspective of an adult the movie would be more serious and the movie would be about stopping the war instead of joining it.

3. Why did the filmmaker or author decide to tell this story from a child’s perspective?
To make the movie funnier and take something seriously and makes it into a comedy

4. How are children represented in the text? How are adults represented in the text?
in this text, we see that the children are the ones training to be soldiers and the adults are going work.

5. Does imagination help the young hero to cope? How so? Provide an example.
In the movie, Jojo's imagination shows us that he has a friend who is Hitler. His imaginary friend Hitler would give him advice about what he should do like when Jojo found out a girl was living in his walls

6. Does this text connect in any other ways to the other texts you have read/viewed? How so? Provide evidence and explain.

In English, we had to make a slideshow/ presentation on aspects that were in a film that we had to choose. I picked the short film The crush.
I described 7 aspects and something about it.

In Metal, we have been tasked to make mini vice. It took us two terms to make these and it was fun.

First, we cut out 2 pieces of aluminium metal then we covered it in engineering blue. After we filed the corner off then polished it.
After that, we used the lathe to make our bar and we had to make the bar 6mm in width.
Then we threaded it to make this.
When I was using the lathe I got confused but I managed to use it and shape off my bar.

We then made another bar and so that it supports the aluminium bar when the mini vice is used.

Treaty Research.

Who was the Treaty between?
Māori and Europeans
How long was the Treaty binding for?
Since 1840 (179 years old)
What are the positives and negatives of being bound in a treaty?

Positives
Giving an extension for time for written submissions was "quality engagement" by the Government. “Well done”.

Protection against the sale of Maori land will remain strong through a 75 per cent threshold for agreement among owners.

The Government's recognition of landlocked land, and rating and valuation issues (although "belated") was commended.

Countries trying to gain independence.
Negatives
There were consultation flaws. The consultation hui in June last year breached legal standards, there wasn’t sufficient time or information for “meaningful participation” by Maori.

If there is not more, properly informed and broad support for the bill, then the Government is in breach of the Treaty.

Musket wars, Diseases, Drunken Sailors.

Land and property of Maori being taken from them.

Are there any obvious similarities with people affected by the Treaty you have researched and those affected by the Treaty of Waitangi?

Musket wars, Diseases, Drunk Sailors, British trying to take over, Scotland and New Zealand trying to gain independence, Land and property of Maori.

Risk or challenge

In camp, we were put into groups. We got to go out and do fun things like hiking, orienteering and nightline. Nightline was the most challenging thing I’ve done at camp.

The nightline was the most challenging out of all of them because we had to be blindfolded and could not see anything. first, we had to walk to where we will be doing the nightline blindfolded and that was challenging. Everyone was holding on to each other’s shoulders and we formed a chain so it would be easier and we could help each other. When we got to the nightline we had to hold on to a wire. The wire went all around the forest and the risky bit was trying to get to the end because the wire went around trees, under trees and through the roots. The hard bits were when we had to go around big trees and we had to bear hug them to follow the rope and we had to reach under the roots and that was hard because the wire was tangled in the roots. but walking back was also challenging because we had walk back in the dark and that was scary.

I was feeling nervous and anxious when we were doing the nightline because I didn’t want to walk into a tree and hurt myself. I felt butterflies in my stomach during the nightline and our hands were very sweaty. I was feeling very scared and didn’t want to do it anymore but I kept going. I was feeling very happy too because every time I would run into a tree me and the guy next to me would laugh and carried on following the line. I knew the guy next to me was scared because his hands were sweaty and he was holding tight to my hand.

When we were doing the nightline we were told to follow the line and walk through the forest blindfolded. My heart was pounding because I was so scared, I was scared because I thought someone was gonna come and kidnap us. While we were walking through the forest blindfolded I hit my head on trees and almost fell over because of the big rocks that were there. Those rocks were massive. Every time we would reach a tree the person at the front will yell out to the rest to watch out. Everyone was holding hands, that made it easier to move around and we can help each other. I was the one at the front and I regretted it because I kept running into trees.

Eventually, we made it to the end. I was so relieved that we had made it to the end then it was time to go back to the cabins. Once we got back to the cabins I went straight to the bunks and lay down.
