Critical literacy

Why are you reading this text?
We are reading this text because it interests us and makes us want to read more. It helps us learn more about what happens around New Zealand and shows us that there are still people that care about the homeless/poor people.

Why is the text written in the way it is?
It is written that way because it is supposed to pull us in or to catch our attention. It has "help" in bold letters on top of the page with a photo of a little girl sitting on the floor.

What do the images suggest?
The images show us that there is a little girl sitting in her home smiling and that she is happy. The images also inform us that she might be poor.

My food bag semester.

Blurb about the design process.

~Who was your profile target?
My target audience was kids under 5.

~what was your recipe decision based on?
My recipe was based on kids under.

Insert recipe into a blog.
Separate beef into 4 equal portions. Use hands to lightly form into patties the size of your buns (mine are about 10 cm / 4") - don't press hard, light fingers = soft juicy patties (see video for how I do this).

Season generously with salt and pepper on both sides. Make a dent on one side (stop burger from becoming dome shape and shrinking when cooking).

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a heavy-based skillet or BBQ over high heat. Add onion and cook until wilted and caramelised. Season with salt and pepper, then remove.

Heat 1 tbsp oil until smoking. Add patties and cook for 2 minutes until deep golden with a great crust. Do not press! Flip carefully, cook for 1 minute then top with cheese (if using). Cover with lid and cook for further 1 minute until cheese is melted.

Meanwhile, toast the cut side of the buns lightly.

To serve: Spread the base of buns with sauce/condiment of choice. Top with lettuce then tomato, then hamburger patty. Pile over onions, sliced pickles, then more sauce/condiments. Top with the lid of the bun. Serve immediately.
Explain why this recipe was chosen.
